Can my dog still get a rabies shot if I lost the record for his last shot?

I just got him in September and I know that his rabies shot is due this month. I left the record at a wellness clinic and didn't go get it because my aunt has a copy of his records (she and her son run the dog rescue where I got him). But I need to get it done soon, so can I just tell them he needs one or do I need to try to get another copy of his last record? thanks
