Tiredness is a non specific, but common presentation in General Practice. If it has persisted for more than 4 weeks it is reasonable to screen the patient. FBC, U+E, LFTs, TFTs, Blood sugar, ESR and CRP are usually checked. Whilst the odd diabetic and the odd patient with an underactive thyroid or anaemia are picked up, more than 95% of the screens are negative. Generally the remainder of the patients are said to either be post viral or have psychological issues.
