What does my last name mean?!?

I'm Danish and have a last name that is very uncommon: Laursen. Most Danes have the last name Larsen. The only explanation i've heard/read was that my last name means "the son of Laur" but sen in danish doesn't mean son.... Can someone please help explain all this confusion to me! :(
