A dermatologist zapped my skin with an electrical device. Was this safe?

My forehead had light small acne - now it is bright red spots where he zapped it. Was this safe? What did he do? Does anyone know what this treatment is for acne? I have it very mild, I'm 47, and he gave me lotion for the redness. FIVE refills, which has me a bit worried. There was no redness before. Will the skin heal up OK?
